The Durand Cup is one of the oldest football tournaments in Asia. The third oldest worldwide is an annual domestic competition held in India. The winning team receive the 3 trophies such as President’s Cup, Shimla Cup, and Durand Cup. Check the Durand Cup Winners and Runner-up List of all Seasons.

Sir Henry Mortimer Durand established the Durand Cup tournament in Shimla in 1888. Initially featuring predominantly British Armed Forces and British Indian Army teams and other armed units during its early years.

It has been held annually since 1888 except during 1914-1919. Due to World War One 1939 for World War Two; 1941-1947. Due to World War Two and the Partition of India. Durand Cup, more commonly known as Durand Football Tournament.

Details of Durand Cup

The tournaments resumed annually since 1950 with only one exception due to the COVID-19 pandemic; it resumed in 2021. The winning team receives three trophies. Durand Cup (original tournament trophy).

Royal Scots Fusiliers were the winners of the inaugural tournament held in 1888. However, subsequent champions Highland Infantry and Blackwatch proved more successful during the pre-independence era (1888 to 1947).

Since India gained independence, two Kolkata rivals Mohun Bagan and East Bengal. It has gone on to become some of the most successful clubs ever, winning 16 Durand Cup titles each. The Shimla Trophy (donated by residents of Shimla), and the President’s Cup (rewarded post-independence era).

Since 1950, 70 editions have taken place; of those held. 3 times (82 and 60 for Bagan and East Bengal; 1976 for JCT and Border Security Force).
