Women’s Premier League is famous as the women’s Twenty20 cricket franchise league. The BCCI owns and runs it. The Mumbai Indians won the inaugural title in the first season, which concluded in March 2024. There were five participating franchises, and the matches were held in Mumbai and Navi Mumbai. The league’s inaugural season ran from March 4 to March 26, 2024, with 22 games played at Mumbai’s DY Patil and Brabourne Stadiums.
This competition began in 2018 as a single-match tournament. The IPL’s organizational structure serves as the model for the league. The BCCI opened proposals on January 28, 2023, for the league’s title sponsorship arrangements until 2027.

The competition starts with five teams, each of which plays the other in a double round-robin style. The three teams who conclude with the most points advance to the playoffs. Moreover, if the league is successful, the Board intends to raise the number of clubs and games in upcoming seasons.

During the first period of five years of the competition, the BCCI plans to split 80% of the income among the franchise owners. Fifty percent of the revenues will be given in seasons eleven through fifteen, with the remaining sixty percent going to the next five seasons. In addition, the franchisees will get 80% of the money. In addition, franchises will make money from advertising, ticket sales, and merchandising.
