Sunil Gavaskar, the famous former Indian cricket player, marked an important moment in his long and successful Test career during the fifth Test in Dharamsala against England. Gavaskar was given a cake by the BCCI in the commentary room on the first day of the match to mark the 37th anniversary of his becoming the first player in Test cricket to score more than 10,000 runs. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) shared a video of the event to show how important March 7 was in the history of Indian cricket. As of now, Gavaskar is 13th on the list of all-time Test run makers. He made history on March 7, 1987, against Pakistan in Ahmedabad, when his score of 63 runs put him over 10,000.

Gavaskar said, “This is great” to show his appreciation. They remembered this day, and I want to thank them. March 7 was a special day for me because it was the day I ran 10,000 runs. In addition, it’s interesting to learn that today is also the date of my first Test fifty. He also pointed out that Ravichandran Ashwin played his 100th Test on the same day, which showed how important the day was for Indian cricket beyond Ashwin’s own accomplishments.
