The BCCI’s central contract list shows that Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma are still holding their places in the prestigious Grade A+ category, just as they were the year before. Their continuous membership in this elite club emphasizes their crucial function and predictable supremacy in the cricket world. Both Kohli and Sharma, who fall into the Grade A+ group, will make Rs 7 crore a year apiece, exclusive of match fees, which are Rs 15 lakh for each Test match, Rs 6 lakh for each ODI, and Rs 3 lakh for each Twenty20 match.

Jasprit Bumrah and Ravindra Jadeja, who are expected to make Rs 7 crore a year, will be joining them in the Grade A+ category. Cricket players that regularly play in all three game formats are eligible for this category. With Jay Shah announcing that Sharma will skipper the team in the 2024 T20 World Cup, both Kohli and Sharma have made noteworthy comebacks to T20I cricket. Acknowledged as India’s best bowler in all forms, Bumrah is allowed to skip a few bilateral series a year in order to manage his workload. Jadeja, who is currently regarded as the best all-round player, recently skipped the home T20I series against Afghanistan.

Grade A players are paid Rs 5 crore annually, Grade B players Rs 3 crore, and Grade C players Rs 1 crore, according to the compensation structure for other categories. Six players, including Test specialist R Ashwin and white-ball specialist Hardik Pandya, were given Grade A contracts this year. Ashwin specializes in Test cricket.

Five players have been given Grade B contracts by the BCCI, with Rishabh Pant dropping from Grade A to Grade B this season. Fifteen players have also been awarded Grade C contracts; Sarfaraz Khan and Dhruv Jurel are expected to be added to this group if they play in the forthcoming Test match between England and Dharamsala.
