Shardul Thakur is like a superhero in cricket. He’s not just a bowler, he’s a game-changer. When the team needs it most, he swoops in with his bowling skills and takes crucial wickets. But that’s not all – he’s also a magician with the bat. Remember that amazing moment in the Ranji Trophy semifinal?

Thakur came to bat when his team was in trouble, but he didn’t let the pressure get to him. He scored a century, turning the game around completely! And it’s not just once; he’s done it multiple times. In the final, he scored a quick-fire 75 runs, showing everyone that he’s not just a bowler but a reliable batsman too.

Now, he’s back with Chennai Super Kings for the Indian Premier League, and fans are excited to see him in action again. With some key players injured, CSK needs Thakur more than ever. But there’s hope – reports say that another player, Matheesha Pathirana, might be back from injury soon, which could give the team a boost. So, all eyes are on Thakur as he gears up to lead CSK to victory, showing once again why he’s such a valuable player in the world of cricket.

Versatile players within CSK

Former Chennai Super Kings (CSK) captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni always valued players who could both bowl and bat well, especially seam-bowling all-rounders. Players like Albie Morkel, Dwayne Bravo, and Shane Watson were key to CSK’s successes in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Now, a new player named Thakur seems to be following in their footsteps and could become the next match-winner for the team.

Thakur, who was bought back by CSK for Rs 4 crore, has already been part of two IPL-winning campaigns with the team in 2018 and 2021. However, those years were just the beginning of his international cricket journey. Over the past three years, he has developed into a versatile all-rounder. Despite being 32 years old, Thakur has shown remarkable skill with the ball, taking 89 wickets in 86 IPL matches throughout his eight-year career.

But it was only last season that he showcased his batting prowess by scoring his first-ever fifty – a blazing 68 runs off just 29 balls for Kolkata Knight Riders against the Royal Challengers Bangalore. His innings completely changed the game, lifting KKR from a tough position of 89/5 to a formidable total of 204/7. Unsurprisingly, he was awarded the Player of the Match after RCB was dismissed for just 123 runs.

Shardul Thakur: A Rise in Batting Performance

Thakur started feeling more confident after playing some really important innings in international cricket. It all kicked off with his brave performance scoring 67 runs against Australia in the Gabba Test back in 2021. Then, he followed it up with scores of 57 and 60 against England at The Oval, where India won by a big margin of 157 runs.

Last year, he made 51 runs in the World Test Championship final against Australia, which was his fourth time scoring over 50 runs in a Test match. Thakur usually bats at positions 7 or 8 in cricket matches, but he’s actually quite skilled as a middle-order batsman.

It’s likely that in the upcoming IPL matches, the team captain Ruturaj Gaikwad will use him more as a batter. The Chennai Super Kings (CSK) start defending their title against the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) at their home ground on March 22nd.
