Exploring IPL 2024’s Rule Revolution – Two Bouncers Per Over, No Stop Clock, and More!

In the upcoming 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL), bowlers will get the chance to bowl two bouncers in each over, which is different from before when only one bouncer was allowed. This change was first tried out in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT) during the 2023-24 domestic season. Usually, in T20 international matches, bowlers can only bowl one bouncer per over according to the rules set by the International Cricket Council (ICC).

But in Test matches and One Day Internationals (ODIs), bowlers can bowl two bouncers per over. Also, in the IPL 2024 matches, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has decided that when a referral is made for a stumping, the umpires will also check if the catch was taken cleanly before deciding on the stumping.

This is different from the ICC rules, where only stumping calls are reviewed by the on-field umpire. By adding this extra check for catches before deciding on a stumping, the BCCI aims to make sure that both teams are treated fairly.

No Stop Clock, and More

In this year’s IPL, each team gets to keep two chances for review. They can use these to check if a player was out, or if the umpire made a mistake like calling a wide or a no-ball. But here’s a twist: unlike other big cricket matches, the IPL won’t use the stop clock rule. This rule normally helps matches stay on schedule, but the IPL decided not to go with it this time.

Smart Relay System

A new update is happening in the upcoming tournament! They’ve introduced a Smart Replay System to make decisions faster and more accurate. Now, instead of just one person, two operators from Hawk-Eye system will directly help the TV umpire in making calls. They’ll use images from eight cameras placed around the field to get a clear picture. With this change, the old job of the TV broadcast director, who used to pass information between the umpire and the Hawk-Eye operators, won’t be needed anymore.

Starting of Match Details

Get ready for an epic showdown as the new cricket season kicks off with a thrilling match between Chennai Super Kings and Royal Challengers Bengaluru at the Chepauk Stadium. It’s going to be a clash of titans as the defending champions, Chennai Super Kings, take on Royal Challengers Bengaluru in what promises to be an electrifying game.

Fans are eagerly awaiting the return of two cricketing legends, MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli, who will grace the field once again after a hiatus. Dhoni, who led his team to victory in the IPL 2023 final against Gujarat Titans, is all set to make a comeback. On the other hand, Kohli, who has been away from action since January this year, is geared up to showcase his skills on the cricket pitch once more.

Adding to the excitement, just days before the clash. Royal Challengers Bengaluru announced a fresh start by changing their name to reflect the current name of the city, Bengaluru. This revamp signifies a new chapter for the team and is sure to add an extra layer of intensity to the match. So mark your calendars and don’t miss out on the action-packed start to the new season as cricketing giants collide on the field, promising an unforgettable experience for fans everywhere.
